Psychotherapy and art therapy in Washington, DC.
Beth Tutt, MA, LPAT, ATR-BC, is a Licensed Professional Art Therapist and Board-Certified Art Therapist with more than fifteen years of clinical experience, including nearly a decade at Children’s National Hospital. She works with adults, children age five and older, and teenagers. Therapy may involve conversation, art-making, imagery, and attention to emotional and embodied experience; art-making is optional.
You may understand intellectually why something keeps happening and still find that understanding alone has not changed it. Therapy can make room for the emotional, relational, and embodied parts of experience that are harder to reach by thinking alone.
How I Work
Therapy with attention to patterns, relationships, and experience.
I work relationally and with an interest in depth. That means paying attention not only to what is happening now, but also to recurring patterns, emotional experience, relationships, and the meanings that have developed around what you have lived through.
The relationship we build in therapy is part of the work. It can offer a place to notice what becomes difficult, what tends to remain unspoken, and what it is like to respond differently over time.
Sessions may involve conversation, art-making, imagery, movement, or other forms of expression. Art-making is optional. Some people work primarily through conversation; others find creative work useful when an experience is difficult to understand or express in words.
